APUSH Oral History: War on Terror

War on Terror

Launched following the September 11th attacks on the United States, the War on Terror is an ongoing campaign to fight terrorism around the globe. Spearheaded by the United States, the international campaign has fought terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS in Middle Eastern countries, as well as their respective foreign terror cells in European and American nations. The United States specifically has engaged in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001, with a de-escalation of troops in Iraq starting in 2010. Some of the main events in the War on Terror would be both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, the September 11th attacks, and the killing of Osama Bin-Laden. In the interviews on this page, hear the stories of people that lived through 9/11, as well as the stories of soldiers serving during the War on Terror.
